課程概述

本課程將訓練學生運用統計方法來從事社會學之分析。除了統計模習的基本介紹之外，本課程特別強調在實際資料分析上所需具備的技能，包含資料的整理、模型的構思、變數的操作化、圖表的整理與表達、數據的詮釋等。課程內容大體 包含以下幾部分:
A.Simple Linear Regression
(1)Linear Regression and its inferences
(2)Diagnostics and Remedial Measures

B. Multiple Regression
(1)Introduction to Multivariate Relationships
(2)Multiple Regression Analysis: Basics
(3)Multiple Regression Analysis: General Linear Tests
(4)Multiple Regression Analysis: Multicollinearity
(5)Multiple Regression Analysis: Model Selection

C.Regression on Dummy Variables and Analysis of Covariance

D.Logistic Regression and Other Regression Models of Qualitative Dependent Variable

E.Factor Analysis (Optional) 

課程目標
 本課程目的在讓學生瞭解常用的高等統計方法，培養對統計論證的批判態度，並奠定作實證研究之基礎。具體的目標有三:
(1) 對於社會學常用之統計模型的基本認識
(2) 對於統計原理的基本掌握，日後可以自學方式進行複雜統計應用
(3) 熟悉統計軟體SPSS/stata，並能從事複雜大型資料分析 
課程要求
 學生必須上課聽講、研讀指定教材及補充講義，學習使用SPSS/Stata來做每週統計作業。課程安排有期中、期末考試。
